Song Notes:
I always loved the chord progressions in songs such as in John Lennon's "Yes It Is" or Neil Finn's (Crowded House) "Distant Sun" as they provide beautiful musical patterns to add harmonies and emotional intent. I started with the chords A to F#m to F to C and wanted to write a song that would be supportive to those who'd been melencholy over a break up. As I was working on the second verse I learned that a good friend of mine was going through a difficult time. I finished the song with him in mind offering what glimpses of positivity one can, hinting at the natural cycles of life in the lyrics.
I recorded the bed tracks with Brian Hermanson at my good friend, Jim Duchesneau's place at Balls Falls, Ontario. After listening to the monitor mixes I was wondering what musician would best understand the feel of the song and layer it accordingly. Mark Hart plays keyboards and guitar with Crowded House, Neil Finn's band, and I really enjoyed his stage presence and musicality. I reached out to Mark who listened to the song and felt he'd be able to add some recording tracks.
The recording features Mark on four tracks; three guitar and a Wurlitzer keyboard track. There's still some editing, percussion and mixing to do but the song is shaping up nicely.
While at Brian Hermanson's home studio in St. Louis we edited out a section, made the kick drum on the first verses sparser and added shakers. Getting closer!
